Video: “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt“

Director:Akiva Schaffer

We Are Scientists

The new high energy clip, "Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt", from a personal favorite, We Are Scientists, is a fast, fun chase video off their self titled debut. The scientists have totally found a way to play their music and have fun doing it. The catchy up beat song sets the mood of the video immediately.

The video opens up with the band jamming out in a makeshift practice area, casually playing as all of them drop there instruments and jet out the door. They are being pursued by what turns out to be a giant bear (well a big man in a bear suit). The video takes to the streets as the boys run wild with the furry creature close at hand. Up and down stairwells and over fences, they can not seem to outrun the bear. The video is even equipped with a sweet night vision shot. "Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt" ends with the band narrowly escaping their wood dwelling pursuer. Check it out.-Charlie Collick

Artist: My Morning Jacket

Video: “ Off the Record“

Director: Jake Schreier

My Morning Jacket

My Morning Jacket launches their second video, this one for the song “Off the Record”. Not knowing much about this band before viewing the video had me greatly anticipating it. I was not let down one bit.

The video starts out in a schoolyard and one girl tells someone a secret. The secret begins to spread rapidly causing everyone to do erratic things. One boy throws his backpack on top of the school and then tells the secret to a teacher. The teacher takes off running down the street stopping a jogger which sparks her to sprint home and bury all her medications. She then calls a man in and office building and as the secret spreads there they begin to pile chairs on desks. The video is crazy and amusing. At the end of the video “the man” arrives and starts arresting everyone. Give the video a look. -Charlie Collick

Artist: Longwave

Video: “There's a Fire“

Director: Jon Fine

Longwave

It was not hard to feel the heat from Longwave’s new video, “There’s a Fire”. The song is a catchy, riff driven tune that seems to get permanently torched into your memory. This is the first single off the bands sophomore album There’s a Fire.

The video opens up with the band playing on what appears to be a landing strip of some kind. This next part is the most exciting part of the whole video (and it’s not all that exciting). The shot starts to multiply and different shots of the same performance are skewed across the screen. The time flies by in these shot, as the sun sets and cascades behind the band. It’s short and sweet and focuses primarily on the band’s music and not their ability to shoot a cool clip. Give it a look for yourself and grab the album.--Charlie Collick

Artist: Limbeck

Video: “People Don't Change“

Director: Ryan Rickett

Limbeck

Limbeck’s video for "People don’t Change", is fun, energetic, and it suits the song beautifully. This is the video for the band’s new album Let Me Come Home, which came out in early August of this year.

The boys of Limbeck can be seen sporting vintage clothes (although its probably what they wear everyday anyway) while rocking out for a group of teens at a backyard barbeque party circa 1970. The song fits so perfectly because the song is saying, whether you are in 1970 or 2005, people just don’t change. The clip features lead singer, Robb Maclean walking around the party, entertaining all the guests. The video is great, the song is great, if you watch the video you’re great. -Charlie Collick

Artist: Youth Group

Video: “Skeleton Jar“

Director: Mathematics

Youth Group

The creative new video "Skeleton Jar", from the Aussie alternative band Youth Group is anything but ordinary. The new album, also named Skeleton Jar, has been huge across the pond and now is invading America.

The video begins with drummer/vocalist, Danny Allan is sitting at his kit with a bloody nose. The lyrics ring out “I feel like hell” and we can see why. As the camera zooms outward, a monotonous game of ping pong is played behind him by the other band members. The video is very dim lit and has a spooky vibe to it. The live rock action is set up on a dilapidated pier, with a menacing crane perched in its center. The skeleton costumes worn by some of the band members is a cool reminder of the video’s title. All in all the video is pretty sweet and the song is pretty cool too.-Charlie Collick

Artist: Alkaline Trio

Video: “Mercy Me“

Director: Benjamin Goldman

Alkaline Trio

Besides my personal love for this band, I can not begin to describe how cool the video for "Mercy Me" really is. Alkaline Trio is one of the most original rock bands of our era and they certainly know how to make a kick ass video as well.

The video picks up with awesome miniture clay/cartoon versions of the band. The video is a straight up Tim Burton dream and has a "Nightmare Before Christmas" feel to it. Between the crazy landscapes, band members hanging off of thin black cords and just rocking out in the middle of nowhere I realized that this video is probably the coolest video of the year that has nothing to do with anything. Artist: Nada Surf

Video: “Always Love“

Director:Greifer and Krotenbluth

Nada Surf

"Always Love", the new video from Barsuk Records' Nada Surf, is a very creative and intriguing piece of work.  Directors Greifer and Krotenbluth worked with Nada Surf on the video, which is off of their new album  The Weight Is A Gift.  The video starts out with different people watching a certain 50's era cartoon on TV.  They all look depressed and lifeless.  As the catchy chorus of "Always love, hate will get you every time" begins everyone picks up their TV's and heads outside.  At this point the boys of Nada Surf are seen jamming casually in a wooded area.  People from all over start to gather around them with their TV's in hand.  They begin to stack the TV's all around the band.  As the last girl brings her TV and the song is dying out, she finds herself all alone surrounded by the TV's.  As the chorus kicks back in, all the TV's turn on to reveal the band and all the people who brought their TV's singing the words right along with Nada Surf.  At first I was a little confused about the video but then I understood what they were doing.  Everyone who was alone had come together by the end of the video, proving true that we should "Always Love." -Charlie Collick

Artist: Silverstein

Video: “Smile In Your Sleep“

Director: Marc Ricciardelli

Silverstein

I have to say that the new video from Silverstein , "Smile In Your Sleep" is very cool.  Director Marc Ricciardelli was inspired by the game Clue for the concept for the video.  Each of the band members wore different colors representing the different characters of Clue.  The song itself is a very dark and tragic song, but the boys cheer it up by having fun through out the video.  The video begins with the band playing in the living room of what appears to be the mansion depicted on the game board.  The only other person in the mansion is the butler.  During the video all the classic clues are shown, such as the candle stick, the rope, etc.  This video was an awesome surprise, not to mention that the song rocks.  Go pick up the new album Discovering the Waterfront and make sure to check out this great video-Charlie Collick

Artist: The Junior Varsity

Video: “Get Comfortable“

Director: Major Lightner

The Junior Varsity

"Get Comfortable", the new video from The Junior Varsity, is a very good depiction of the song.  The band hails from Urbana, IL and worked with director Major Lightner for this video.  The song is about feeling uncomfortable, whether it be in a new place or even your own home town; and I think that the confusion of the video really shows that.  Throughout the video the band can be seen playing in what appears to be parking lot, but they all move around the city trying to, as the song title suggests, "Get Comfortable."  The shooting was done very nicely as it gives you a sense that the band feels like they just don't quite fit in.  Make sure to give this video a look.  Rock on!--Charlie Collick

Artist:Motion City Soundtrack

Video: “Everything IS Alright“

Director:Christopher Mills & Chris Grimser

Motion City Soundtrack

Motion City Soundtrack singer Justin Pierre needs reassurance that everything is alright. The video for “Everything is Alright” opens up with shots of a waiting room, for what we are not sure quite yet, but everyone there is saying everything is alright in a self-doubtingly reassuring way. Justin Pierre is soon lying down in a psychiatrist’s chair confessing to all the things that he can’t deal with like the ocean, airplanes and talking to strangers. The song is an energetic piece of guitar pop, with a hooky chorus and self-introspective lyrics.

The clip is half performance based and half psychological confessional. The band is seen rocking out in a small room adorned with images of brains on the walls and red lights. The room is perhaps symbolic of the inside of Pierre’s brain, echoed with constant reassurance that everything is in fact alright. At times we see Justin Pierre’s face deconstructing itself in a flurry of mental breakdown. In the end it seems that everything is in fact alright and our sad, mentally unsure singer is seen napping, hand affectionately lying over a mannequin -Andrew Goulburn
